The 6th Future Leaders Forum hosted in Bangkok this year.

I am going to attend the 6th Future Leaders Forum at the Central World in Bangkok-Thailand from the 6th -8th of Oct 2008, the above is applicants' names shortlisted.

Essay for the ASEF University in Macau, December 2008.

I would like to share you guys the essay that I have written to submit for the ASEF Universities Symposium Scholarship this December.

The Metropolis in Asia and Europe

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM TOWARDS URBANIZATION IN HANOI CITY.

Hanoi is a holy name to many Vietnamese people, the second largest city in Vietnam, an ancient city with a long-standing culture and history and famous landscapes. Even though I was not born in Hanoi, I was raised there. There are many authors and musicians writing about the unique and ancient charms of Hanoi with the coming 1000th year anniversary of the founding of the city.

I studied for an undergraduate degree at Hanoi University majoring in Language Arts, which helped me have some chances to study history and culture about this city, and then I continued to study in Tourism Management in Thailand. These two different fields helped me to widen my eyes and deepen my thinking about the metropolitan cities in Asia and Europe with hands-on experiences. My field of study has helped me to gain an in-depth understanding about the terms such as Sustainable Tourism Development, Economic Globalization, Cultural Heritage and Urban Planning throughout the world. In addition, I possess the basic knowledge of my original country in line with studying about world tourism and development. I hope to be involved in the urban policy planning towards the master plan for the year 2015 for my country. I would like to envision the Hanoi City of the future.

Hanoi’s economic development and urban planning are in line with sustainable tourism, because Hanoi has been the largest tourist center of the whole country, the image of a country with a population of nearly 90 million people. This city plays a very important and meaningful role for Vietnam and can be a showcase for sustainable tourism with industrialization and modernization. Our Capital City can stand in line with other world-class cities. Globalization has pushed Hanoi to grow very fast, however, it necessarily deals with environmental problems, takes measures to make full use of historical and cultural vestiges.

In the national development strategies pointed out the key economic player is tourism towards sustainable development such as professional orientation of tourism development, territorial orientation of tourism development and investment orientation of tourism development.

The goal in many fields of Vietnam economics is to turn Vietnam into an internationally accepted market; nationally owned and non-government enterprises can be involved in developing a global perspective.

The territorial orientation of developing tourist sites or attractions in Hanoi Capital City, Vietnam should be concerned with the urban planning policies. As such, the socio-economic development must be viewed in connection with surrounding areas in the region for sustainable development.

The urban planning must make unique products and services including location for the political, cultural, educational, commercial and financial center, as well as transportation, sport centers, entertainment areas, telecommunication and control centers of tourism throughout the country. Development means linking to economic-cultural heritage where the social structure and urban planning go in harmony with the urban economy and ecology.

Hanoi should not hurry to jump over or implement the above policies in a short time. On the contrary, we need to take a long enough time to consider, measure, listen, and analyze carefully for development. In the urban planning, we need to build a unique Hanoi with a Vietnamese, oriental, and long-term charm. We mustn’t copy from other modern cities. They cannot be adopted to Vietnam. If Hanoi needs to build a lot of infrastructures and superstructure immediately to turn it into fast modernization, it will a big waste if we can’t do it efficiently and effectively. Whatever we do we must consider carefully. Therefore, the urban planning needs to take time and be done gradually. The details for urban planning projects should be open to the people to vote for the best one; such as expanding the city and combining it with the surrounding region, considering the best places to locate the center of the city, developing the Red River site as an attractive destination for tourism. Transport and roads should be improved. Focus must be placed on developing the human resources for the Nation in many fields such as socio-economics. and there is a need to renovate and invest to build some important tourist sites such as Co Loa citadel, Van Tri bond, Dong Quan, Soc Temple, Ba vi –Suoi Tien, Dong Mo-Ngai Son and Hoa Binh culture and festivals because these places surrounded Hanoi City.

Investment orientation for development is essential for the modern city. The government should have better policies and laws to attract foreign investments to build infrastructures and superstructures. If needed, Vietnam can borrow the budget from some big organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Japan Foundation etc to build the necessary macro projects, for example: renovating Noi Bai international airport, building a subway, toll-way, and sky-train, the Red River sites, centers, skyscrapers and expanding Hanoi etc.

In line with economic globalization emerging in Vietnam, development is necessary, but preserving and remaining cultural heritage of 36 ancient districts cities and some buildings has to be highly considered. We want to conserve the value of the 1000th year anniversary of the foundation of Thanglong culture, remembered from one generation to another generation. It is an extremely important philosophy to Vietnamese from once upon a time.

Vietnam hosted the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting in Hanoi on 8-9 October 2004. Success of cooperation between the two regions can be seen in the growth of Vietnam in many fields of economics such as strengthening trade and investment flows, cooperation in finance, cooperation in tourism development, complementing support for the multilateral trading system with regionalism and interaction with the business community. In my field of study, tourism management and minor subjects such as Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions, has shown me the importance of cooperation between developing and developed countries for the development of my country and in particular development in sustainable tourism.

Overall, I am very eager to join in the 15th ASEF University forum to discuss and present areas of knowledge from my study field and sharpen my views and thoughts about the Metropolis in Asia and Europe for my future career. Specifically, it offers a chance for me to understand more about Asian and European universities by meeting and exchanging ideas with new friends in your host event

How I can become a good CEO

How to become a good CEO

Every small business owner has to become a CEOThis doesn't just happen by itself you have to work at becoming a good CEO. If you've done any research at all you've probably run across the phrase, "You have to work on your business not in it." This is only partially true. For the new small business owner this is often so impossible that it's even silly to consider it. You may be the business owner but you're also likely to be the only employee. But even if you have five or ten employees, you'll be better served splitting your time between working in and "on" the business.
Why is this? It's the same dynamic at work in big business. If you spend all of your time working on the business two things inevitably happen. You over manage the business, and you lose focus on the core.
If you're business just does one thing, let's say you run a web site that sells software. If you spend all of your time working "on" the business you'll quickly run out of things to do. The core of your business is buying software, marketing the product, and reselling at a higher price. When you're first getting it off the ground that's a lot of work. But once you're established and you have a staff of five or six people working for you what do you do?
The story line that's been told a thousand times is you work on getting better pricing, you work on the marketing, or you fine tune the operation. Guess what? At some point this is going to start delivering a negative return. You just end up frustrating your staff, or you make a decision out of boredom that isn't the right decision.

Topic: Bridging the Differences in Culture and Beliefs – Thailand and ASEAN

The Thais are proud of their land that is located in the hub of Southeast Asia. This country is shaped like the head of an elephant with the trunk pointing to the south. Its area is 514,000sqkm. Of course this land is endowed with the rich agricultural soil and mineral resource. Thailand has a population of 64 million, of which 75% are Thai- a Mongoloid subgroup with a light include Malay, Khmer, and Vietnamese inhabitants, the national language is spoken is Thai.
The Land of Smiles is the only one in Southeast Asia that has never felt the yoke of foreign domination or colonialism during its history. Moreover, regarding to my topic is Thai culture and beliefs that may need to be understood from the ethic tradition of the various people, who inhabited in and migrated to Thailand to form the Thai cultures as we understand it today, the indirectly influences from Indian religion and mythology, the original myths of some minorities living in Thailand and animist traditions which continues today. Certainly, we can say that Thailand is the country of Buddhist temples, because Buddhism occupies about 90% of Thai beliefs, it lasted for a long period of time and shaped the way the Thais think, their tradition and art. Throughout the researched data enough that led to a conclusion is the Thais are tolerant enough to allow and adopt beliefs and foreign cultures’ perpetuation into Prathet Thai ( Thailand). E.g. Christianity, Jewish, Brahmanism, Islam and Muslim religions, as a result is indicated that the freedoms of religious beliefs are highly respected in this country. Thai were influenced from western culture from the Ayuthaya period and especially during the Chakri reign of King Rama III. And also there are many intellectual Thais trained from abroad and got back to Thailand to build this country again, together with the many signed trade agreements with Western culture because of the practical benefit of new technology such as printing, medical science, national administration, finance, armed forces, justice system and laws.
However, They still remain their own culture, tradition and beliefs itself. That made Thailand becomes a unique color from others. I would like to point out some good examples here: The Khwan Celebration for the newborns, the Naming Ceremonies for Babies, Cremation Ceremony Makhabuja Day, the Kathin Ceremony, the New Year’s Day, the “Sart” Festival and Loy Krathung Festival .And the ranges of Ceremonies organized by the government such as : Ploughing Ceremony, Celebration of the Constitution Day, Royal Ceremony, Coronation Day, His Majesty’s Birthday Anniversary and Her Majesty’s Birthday Anniversary.
This topic has been discussed among the variety of culture and beliefs in ASEAN countries’ delegates. We have shown the differences among the culture and beliefs of all
ASEAN countries and looked for the ways to tackle those situations for enforcing the sustainable relationship and development within ASEAN community. So that bridging the gap among ASEAN countries, the discussion also have been taken place in combination between theoretical and practical experiences during ASEANLOGICS2007. Especially, it is proven from the seminars from 2nd to 7th August going hand in hand with the site visits of four specific topics to the particular destinations happened from 8th to 11th August. That made chances for us to observe, learn, exchange, educate and especially to make closer the differences among culture and beliefs that are causes of tension about races and within nations.
Regarding to the theoretical seminars have been taken place, I would like to mention about my presented topic in the comparative point of view among other ASEAN countries’ presentations about culture and beliefs. There are certainly two sites such as : similarities and differences, as you know that our discussed topic is regarded in finding out the different points to solve them for the sustainable relationship, so I am going to focus on the different sites as the hub of discussion.
The differences about rites and rituals within a nation can positively make a colorful beauty for itself. However, if the tolerances, acceptability, and flexibility are not existed within each area of a nation, it will be easy to cause the conflict about culture and beliefs. The following-up question is how to increase the perception of the local people to let them understand about each other and more specific is culture and beliefs inside and outside their nation just as ASEAN countries. The ranges of solutions discussed during the ASEANLOGIC conferences. E.g. the conflicts of the Southern local people and the rest people of other areas in Thailand, it clearly indicated us that a partial cause is originated from the disagreement and misunderstanding about Muslim and Buddhist religion. The Muslim people might feel that they seem behaved in the injustice way from The Thai Government and other Parties in comparison with the main religion is Buddhism. Especially, the Muslim people have been living at the bordering area between Thailand and Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand and Burma. These are very headache questions that Thai government have been trying to find the solutions, we, like a participants pointed out some solutions such as the government should implement some changing policies that are ideas of the local people, there should be the appropriate action plans to train out the people about the value of peace, human beings’ right and love among people. So that it may work to turn them into spirit of tolerance, acceptance, and peace-loving etc.
The second cause of the conflict about culture and beliefs is the economic situation among areas of that country. An example is issued like Singapore; this island has developed sustainable around it and became a peaceful and clean island as we knew.
Other example is in Thailand, because the injustice is offered in economics among areas of Thailand.
Furthermore, the difference within culture of a nation or other countries can cause the gap and conflicts. The solution is for this problem is focused on understanding about mutil-culturalism from the variety of people, if wanted to do so, the government of
ASEAN community should sit together and point out the next action plans to turn ASEAN into a big family such as , a common language for ASEAN, a common currency for ASEAN and a common slogan etc why not? We still should remain our own tradition and culture to make us different from others. But, the importance is that we have something is common to take the basement for understanding.
Next, I would like to go into my site visit to Bali in Indonesia. We started this trip from 8th of August, for the first day, we arrived at Ngurah Rai Aiport and were toured to Cultural parks and Kuta Ground Zezo Place for the tourist sites located in Bali. The first cultural park site is rich about Baliness culture in an unique way and then we went to Kuta Ground Zezo place, here, we can actually know about the bombardment caused in 2002, and there were about 400 dead Indo and non-Indo people. That is a terrorism, why there is that bombardment, as I pointed above that if Indonesian government solved the discontents, injustice, politic issues, economic unbalance, conflicts among religion ,and discrimination of races or not ?or how to make peace among areas of Indonesia? All should be discussed and solved by all nations, not only Indonesia.
My lodging is in Ashlam Gandhi Puri , Klungkung Regency helped me understand so much about Hindu religion, for me, personally, I am Christian son of God, for the first time I felt that there was something not appropriate to me, especially to Religious Acculturation tour to Bali, visiting the temples , mosques, churches ,and viharas. Wonderfully, I learnt from the bottom of my heart for the variety of religion over there, which made a Bali not like other places. Also, it greatly attracted me by its own Hindu traditional architectures and the local people are very friendly, hospitable and love peace. They have been worshiping for peace and concrete combination among other people.
Bali should be good example for today, so that other countries can review a current and future Bali, and it may let me understand more about bridging the differences in culture and beliefs. There are multi-culturalism and variety of races or religion towards their own Hindu architectures. Proven that they are tolerant enough to stay together and disappear the gap. E.g Singapore and Malaysia also are two good models for us to learn something about the future ASEAN that we have been trying to turn it towards our expectation for peace, property and development.
The challenges for ASEAN as a community in this topic
Nowadays, among ASEAN countries have been facing a lot of problems concerning about religion and culture. As I pointed out some challenges above, here, I also would like to identify more for a future ASEAN.
We should bring together and go hand in hand to discuss about the most feasible solutions that should be absorbed from the people to make a concrete ASEAN.
We should let people know the value of belonging to ASEAN citizen and cooperate constructive to build a unique, modern but civilizing ASEAN.
The boundary barriers should more open but suitable to perspective of ASEAN.
The cultural issues and freedom of religion should satisfy the ASEAN citizen
The awareness of the people about the value of culture and beliefs of each country and belongings within ASEAN.
RECOMMENDATION

In conclusion, I would love to recommend that throughout this conference that is a great playground for the youth of ASEAN citizen to be able to aware of value of belongings. We are experiencing like the young ambassadors for our own country to have open speech and share experiences and knowledge about ourselves and for a present and future ASEAN. Surely, we will be applying the best from any corner of this forum to help solve our own countries’ outstanding issues that relating to Culture and Beliefs. Someday, some of us will become one of the leading persons, it certainly is useful to that person’s leading skill.
For me, I will be applying for my International Students Association-ISA and my current surroundings to be able to host a lot of projects concerning about ASEANLOGICS.

ESSAY

I \ Writing about a one page essay about your past experiences and the future goals and why do you deserve to represent for your own country to attend ASEANLOGICS-2007?

Getting immersed in addiction of Activism during my young lifetime, I always gonna want to whisper myself, “What on the earth am I here for?” So, I always live as a well- done mirror that my parents and the life made completely to me. I wanna say greatly thanks to all, for my Parents gave birth to me and this society raised me how to act to answer for the above question.

In retrospect, a good memory that gets me to retell you about, my unforgettable experience when I was a child. My small Village was located in a smallest province of Vietnam, Bacninh. Where the rural people crucially live on agriculture, but when the harvest was lost as the terrible weather and the storm happened. An 11 year-old child observed the awful poverty have constantly lasted, there are many beggars who are in the miserable-looking appearances. I burst into tears in getting worried and had the extremely disable feelings as I couldn’t deal with that entire situation, and I only knew to offer a little rice for them. And then, when my Mom knew this, she intentionally shouted at me and punished me at that night, actually, she was not a selfish woman, but, because we actually didn’t have enough food to eat. We hugged each other and cried. However, she was really proud of that I did at that day; she said “keep your bestowed characteristics, so that you are whom you want to be later”. From that time, she always believes and lets me do whatever I think true and necessary to do. I am not lucky to have a Dad, so I am accustomed to be an independent, social, active but enthusiastic man. I chose my only path to reach my own future, where I hopefully would not see the dark side that we couldn’t recognize for existing it on this earth.

Moreover, I have been kept joining in the internal and external community activities in my own country and overseas. I only have the dream at this age is to study well, voice all the friends nationwide to shake the hands and establish an global students community that is working for us to turn this world into the completely ideal one without any distinguishing, attacks, wars, poverty and epidemic diseases etc. With the advance of IT and media, I believe in us who are the leaders of future; we will be a giant community to heal our globe for the sake of tomorrow generation. Through raising people’s awareness is important to know what is going on around us and discuss to find the ways to fix, our ideas should be the best ones that finally the publics would be realized with leaders’ approval.

Thirdly, I am absolutely interested in applying for the participation on this Forum, especially, being represented for my own country is great as I have been bringing that nationality, I can understand about how a Vietnam in the past and present is, where gives me wings to fly to the skyline that I dreamt of. What’s more, I collected some outstanding problems not only of Vietnam but can be common to the neighboring countries as well with the good solutions for them. Lastly, I am very honor to be a representative for my own country and will do the best to help this Forum successful and harvest so many good results.

Finally, as a student, I have eagerly been applying my knowledge and experiences learnt from the fact of community activities that I experienced to prepare for the perfect working paper with the chosen topic for the coming ASEANLOGICS Forum.

A Vietnamese New Year and Once Again Far Away

A new year again has passed but only the sadness surrounding me.For the rest of that day, I just closed my door to keep quiet for reading books or went to Library to read textbooks to prepare for the final Exams. I have lasted two weeks to finish six subjects and still one sub left.A valentine's day and a new year are nothing for my current life,at least right now.But I still feel that I lacked something that has not still been fullfiled yet.Even although I know I programed for my life schedule then, but still there are too many high and rugged mountains waiting for me to climb over. The hard life sometimes hindered me so much because of the sense of sorrow and tears. I gonna prefer to escape from these days to comfort myself in an ideal and so far place.May be I will try to spend the most meaningful summmer in my hometown, and may be a only way to fill in the blank of sadness and homesickness.I only want to open a larger door that I can enter nearer to reach up with my Mom,siblings and Relatives or Friends to be able to take care of all. That is a great response to all of the rest of the life.I will get back and do such these things, let my heart and conscience be lighter and more comfortable.Please...Wait for me !!!
To sum up, Best of luck, love ,belief ,and failth to all of beloved ones on a new year.
